Today the Texas Education Agency officially announced that Laredo ISD has earned two A’s. The annual ratings show that LISD earned an A in Academic Accountability with a district score of 90. Overall campus ratings for LISD’s 28 schools include 18 A’s and 10 B’s. No LISD campus earned a C or D. LISD also earned an A in finance through their Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) rating.
It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of J A Kawas Elementary. It is a true privilege to join such a caring and dedicated school community within Laredo ISD. Kawas has a strong reputation for its caring staff, community involvement, and a nurturing environment where students are encouraged to grow both academically and socially.
I bring 21 years of experience in LISD, having served as a classroom teacher at both Santo Nino and C. L. Milton Elementary schools. For the past five years, I served as the assistant principal at C. M. Macdonell Elementary. These experiences have deepened my commitment to building strong relationships, leading with purpose, and creating learning environments where every student can thrive.
I earned my Master of Science in Educational Administration from Texas A&M International University and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in History from Texas A&M University. My time at both institutions helped shape my passion for education and provided a strong foundation for my work as a leader and lifelong learner.
As both an educator and a parent of children who attend school in LISD, I believe that education is about more than academics—it is about creating a place where children feel loved, known, and encouraged to dream big. I am passionate about developing a culture where students are excited to learn, teachers feel valued and empowered, and families know they are an essential part of the school community. I look forward to connecting with families to listen, learn, and grow together. I am thrilled to begin this new chapter with the Kawas community and to work collaboratively to ensure a successful school year for all.

Welcome parents to our Kawas and Ligarde Technology Showcase! Our teachers guided our students in creating so many different roller coasters, ramps, and ferris wheels! The FIFA World Cup also made it to our school!
